As the crown replace the apparent part of the tooth, the implant is the hidden part of it. When a tooth is extracted there is no support any more, that 's why we have to place an implant (the false root) into the bone.
We talk about surgery at this step of the treatment, but there is no reason to worry about :
- the anaesthesia is simple (the same as a classical treatment for a decay)
- low post-operative pains in 95% of the cases (less than for an extraction)
- low post-operative complication risks
Once the implant in place, they are the support of different kind of restorations :
Crown/ Bridges (fixed prosthodontics)
Attachment like snap fastoner (dentures)
